Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Health Services and the Division Chief of Geriatrics or delegate, the Specialty Nurse Practitioner provides specialized health care service, as a member of a collaborative practice team to a designated client population group requiring focused health and illness care. The client population the Specialty Nurse Practitioner serves are geriatric patient in acute care setting and community. The practice of the Specialty Nurse Practitioner includes the provision of specialized health services, which includes advanced health assessment, health promotion, illness and injury prevention, coordination and management of acute and emergent health problems and education and advocacy relevant to the patient population. The Specialty Nurse Practitioner is accountable to the Director Professional Practice/Chief Nursing Officer for matters relating to professional nursing practice, ethical conduct and compliance with standards.

Qualifications:
* Successful completion of a Masters of Nursing - Advanced Practice Stream
* Registered or eligible for registration with CRNNS in an active-practicing status with a license to practice as a Specialty Nurse Practitioner in General Medicine
* CNA Certificate of Competence within the designated specialty preferred
* Eligible for adjunct appointment at Dalhousie University School of Nursing
* Successful completion of Collaborative Practice Agreement within a designated period (TO BE NEGOTIATED UPON HIRE)
* Minimum of 2 years General Medicine experience providing nursing care to clients with chronic/acute illness would be an asset
* Active membership in professional association an asset
* Possesses a vision of client centred care
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and be accountable for all actions and decisions
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
* Possesses leadership and organizational skills
* A high degree of judgement and initiative

Hours of Work:
* Long Assignment Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
* Beginning June 30, 2008 until March 31, 2009
* Monday to Friday

Salary: Specialty Nurse Practitioner:
$35.5722 - $45.04202 Hourly

With 25 years of service you may be eligible to receive $41.7803 hourly (Specialty Nurse Practitioner - Pre CA.) or $46.6202 hourly (Specialty Nurse Practitioner)
