MAIN ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Talent Acquisition, the Manager Recruiting is an exciting HR leadership role designed to enhance the sourcing, recruiting and onboarding functions in Alberta, to support Suncor's continued aggressive growth in a changing and challenging labour market.

 

The successful candidate will lead a team of human resources professionals in the provision of recruiting services for the various business units in Calgary, as well as leading recruitment for professional positions in the Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo operations. Staffing needs for 2008 include a forecast hiring activity of over 300 employees, plus the hiring of contract, temporary and student staff working within a matrix organization. As well as managing a number of vendor relationships that support the recruiting function, the group also supports employees relocating to Calgary and the transfer process between Calgary-based businesses. Five Staffing Advisors and two Administrators report to the position.

 

New or enhanced 2008 priorities include:

. Alignment of recruiting processes with the company's Oil Sands Business Unit, located in Fort McMurray.

. Development of recruiter capabilities.

. Integration of contractor recruiting with employer recruiting.

. Co-op, summer and new graduate programs.

. Onboarding programs.

. International recruiting (including managing relationships with provincial and federal governments).

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Given the significance of this position to the future growth and direction of the company, a dynamic, self-motivated, innovative individual is required with the following skills and attributes:

 

. University degree in human resources, business, social sciences or related fields.

. Ten plus years of previous human resources experience and success in providing recruitment services to business areas within a complex, high growth, multi-divisional organization.

. Solid project management and communication skills.

. Strong team player with a collaborative style and pragmatic orientation.

. Proven skills in leading individuals and teams.

. A track record of successfully developing, implementing, communicating, and effectively leading / influencing organizational change in a large complex corporate organization.

. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with internal customers, external providers and industry contacts.

. Innovative, with an in-depth understanding of recruitment processes and best practices, including applicant tracking systems.

. Experience in recruiting for a variety of organizational levels, skill areas and industry sectors, with particular emphasis on technical / professional recruitment.

. Experience with large scale recruitment initiatives is a significant asset.
